Fresh air, without tenants feeling the cold!

Some housing tenants seem to tape up ventilation grills as they don’t like to “feel the cold” especially as they are perceive this wastes energy they are paying for.

This can have a very negative effect on the air quality in their dwelling, and the relative humidity levels, which may ultimately lead to mold growth.

Sacrificing the ability to exchange stale internal air with incoming fresh air can allow the build-up of carbon dioxide, and also moisture in the room, especially whilst occupied.

The ThermaVent “Flow2One” Single Room Heat Recovery Ventilator brings fresh air into living rooms or bedrooms which have an external wall, via a fan at each end of a 100mm diameter (4 inch) duct . The same tube dimension as a traditional axial wall mounted fan, so easy for installers, who usually already carry this size tool drill bit on their van. We offer duct length choices to suit either standard UK solid or cavity wall thicknesses.

The flow2One pre-warms the fresh incoming air by way of a plate heat exchanger, an almost energy free solution. It warms the incoming fresh air by taking the heat from the stale exhausting air which is at room temperature, but without mixing the two.

Unlike most traditional axial wall or window glass mounted fans, which tend to use inefficient AC motors and are noisy for their airflow rates, the Flow2One incorporates two EC fans with dc motors. The unit uses a total of between 1.9 and 2.7 Watts of power (low or high exhaust setting), so costs less than 1 pence of electricity per 24 hours when in continuous use based on current energy tariffs in the UK, less than 7 pence per week on average in the winter months.

Unless the dwellings have air conditioning (cooling) the heat exchanger will not cool incoming fresh air if it is warmer outside than inside (hot summer days). However, it will function with the same efficiency % (cool the incoming warm air) in dwellings with functioning air conditioning.

A remote control is supplied with each Flow2One to switch the unit on/off, and between low or high speed.

If would be helpful to explain to all tenants the incredibly low running costs per week to run full time in the winter on full air exchange, and that this will exhaust dust, dust mites, mold, bacteria carbon monoxide and formaldehyde, so retaining good air quality indoors for a healthier clean environment, particularly in occupied rooms as we humans breathe out carbon Dioxide which can build up if the air is not exchanged.
